A ten minute walk east from the 4 train’s Bedford Park stop is the Bronx Botanical Garden. I would recommend a visit to this well manicured park anytime of the year but especially during the holiday season. Starting in mid-November, the Botanical Garden showcases its extraordinary collection of model trains set to a backdrop of iconic New York buildings made out of plant material.
A few notes before we get into the details and photo tour:
1. This is a popular exhibition (i.e there will be a crowd to contend with.)
2. Try and purchase tickets in advance. You can get them on-line here – http://www.nybg.org/visit/tickets.php
3. The cost for the trains and building tour is $25.
4. Not a bad spot to take a date
Now to the task at hand. I have been to this showing twice and both times did not disappoint. The entire New York City skyline (which does include all 5 boroughs) is scaled down to handcrafted models. The attention to detail is astonishing. I took a few picture but do encourage you to head up and visit yourself. The exhibit runs from November 17th, 2012-January 13, 2013 and is an annual event.
