The City College of New York (CCNY) is the oldest of the 23 colleges in the CUNY (College University of New York) system.  The campus was started in 1847 and is situated on 135th St and Convent Avenue.  The buildings are neo-gothic and one of the main reasons to make this trip uptown.  Neo-Gothic, also called Gothic Revival is a type of architecture that first appeared in England a few hundred years ago – I spent 10 minutes on Wikipedia earlier today and should now be considered an expert on this style….

Definitely bring your camera when make this excursion.  In addition to the school, you will be treated to panoramic views of upper Manhattan.  Below the campus is St. Nicolas park and right around the corner is the Hamilton Grange.  After your campus visit, head north to check out the the historic Hamilton Heights neighborhood and some great brownstones.

I would recommend 3 hours for this adventure including the campus visit, guided tour of Alexander Hamilton’s house and then a casual stroll around the neighborhood.
