Hanging Out With The Huxtables In Brooklyn Heights

By Seth Fera-Schanes

The Cosby Show from the 1980’s and early 1990’s was set in the neighborhood of Brooklyn Heights.  I am sure you are familiar with the show but if you aren’t familiar with this section of New York City, put it on your ‘must visit’ list the next time you are in town.  It is picturesque and one of my favorite places in the city.  In addition to the well kept brownstones and tree lined streets there are a lot of little accents around the neighborhood that stand out and are great for pictures.  There is also a promenade above the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway that provides panoramic views of the Financial District in Manhattan, The Statue of Liberty and The Brooklyn Bridge.

To get to this neighborhood, take the downtown 2 or 3 train and get off at the first stop in Brooklyn at Clark Street. Once you exit the train, you can grab a coffee on Henry Street which has a lot of little shops and then walk around the neighborhood.  Make sure you leave the main arterial roads and cover the side streets working your way back and forth so you can really cover the area.  Tip:  once you are done exploring the neighborhood, you can easily walk over to Brooklyn Bridge Park, D.U.M.B.O or the Vinegar Hill neighborhoods for some additional exploration and fun.
