You don’t have to choose between dinner or a movie. You can have both. At the same time. Maybe it’s date night, or you’re hanging out by yourself, or you’re looking for something new and different to do with your friends. Whatever you’re up to, here are some area restaurants and bars that show movies on premises.

Locale, 33-02 34th Avenue, Astoria, Queens. Every night, a different movie is projected on the restaurant’s large brick wall. On Tuesdays after 10 pm, expect sound. Every other night of the week, it’s subtitles only. The movies are usually classics, with an occasional “Ghostbusters” mixed in. September is Sophia Loren month. October is Hitchcock.  Table 87, 473 3rd Avenue, Gowanus, Brooklyn. This coal oven pizzeria is projecting movies on a huge wall across the street (it’s actually the exterior wall of the subway stop). Every Wednesday at 8:30pm. Coming up next is “Saturday Night Fever.” Call ahead and reserve one of their few outdoor tables (there are speakers above), or just bring your own chair and get comfortable.

Cafe Steinhof, 422 7th Avenue, Park Slope, Brooklyn. The “Austrian Comfort Food” restaurant and bar in Park Slope shows movies every Sunday at 10:30pm. The theme for September is Robin Williams.

Huckleberry Bar, 588 Grand Street, Williamsburg, Brooklyn. This self-described “upscale craft cocktail and small plates bar” shows movies on Mondays at 9pm. The full schedule is available on their website. If you join their movie club, you get 2-for-1 drinks and free popcorn.

If you’re into silent movies, here are two options:

Olive Tree Cafe, 117 Macdougal Street, Greenwich Village, Manhattan. It’s got “Cafe” in its name, but it’s actually a restaurant with a full menu. Charlie Chaplin movies play on screens around the restaurant from opening to closing.

Cinema, 505 3rd Avenue, Manhattan. This trendy Murray Hill restaurant also shows silent movies from opening to closing. Expect lots of Charlie Chaplin, with a few others sprinkled in.
