The culmination of years (that turned into decades) of digging and construction was realized today with the public opening of the second avenue subway line.

I took a trip on the inaugural ride and enjoyed every moment of it.  The train line consists of 3 new stops along second avenue on Manhattan’s Upper East Side at 96th street, 86th street and 72nd street.

The spacious stations offer clean (at least for now) halls, wide platforms and nice elevators and escalators.  Each station also has some really thoughtful artwork that makes a trip to the east side worth it just for the pictures. 

Be sure to make a special stop uptown to see New York’s newest transit addition.
