Profiles and Interviews With Interesting New Yorkers

Couture Fashion Week Hits It’s 25th Season in an Explosive Way

By Nick Christophers

It was standing room only at the Crowne Plaza during the Couture Fashion Week show.

The guests ranged from dignitaries from overseas to local artists of all colors. It was a unique show in many ways. During Fashion Week there are many events going on but few offer more than just stunning models presenting the latest trends.  This show was much more.  It was founded by Andres Aquino in 2005 and has held shows in New York, Cannes and other key locales.

From the 10th to the 12th of February it was sold out and many were actually turned away due to lack of room. On Saturday night at the 8 pm show there were over 400 guests in attendance.  The space was only able to accommodate a maximum of 500. As we mentioned earlier this was a different kind of fashion show. They not only had the models on hand but also dancers and musicians.  There were Opera singers from Spain and China to a three piece band. The guests had more than just luxury fashions to see.fashion-show-2017-2

We caught up with one of the representatives of the show, Front of the House manager, Matthew Rutherford who offered some insight.

“I am responsible for the guests and making sure they are taken care of. Couture Fashion is known around the world via our sponsor Z- TV. They provide for over 150 countries so our exposure is international. We have with us today representatives from Slovakia, Nepal and Australia. We have the longest lasting fashion title than anyone else. It is of course our 25th season.”

Matthew along with many of his staff worked extra hard to make the event run smoothly and professionally.  There were also vendors who displayed their talents at the show like Paulina Canas (fashion designer) and painters Jessica Morfea and Pablo Palasso.

The talent pool that was displayed was top notch. There were dancers like internationally known Jose Delgadillo and Helen Wang, vocal performer Princess Long Long and the Pesvebi Dance Ensemble to name a few. Princess Long Long in particular had a whole team who gave an elegant performance.couture-fashion-week-show

Evan Peragiblin organized the performance which featured a flute player (Samantha) and dancers like Alex who offered a tango / swing rendition. She chose her team specifically from her Alma Marta the Juilliard School.

Even local artists came to enjoy the show like Camellia Cheung a well-known award winning folk singer in her native China. Also press like D-TV who were interviewing models and performers were on hand.

After the show was over a massive crowd occupied the foyer while cameras flashed endlessly. All the performers including the models took to the “step and repeat” and the flashing did not stop. The energy in the room was amazing and electrifying. For its 25th season Couture Fashion Week show made its mark for 2017.
