After a year of walking past Crave Fishbar and repeatedly saying, “we should try this place”, last Saturday, we finally tried it.  Being from Sydney, we are always looking for a good seafood fix and seeing that Crave Fishbar has 4 stars on Yelp, we were hopeful that this place would hit the spot.

We stated with a glass of citric sauvignon blanc and the local mahi mahi ceviche, presented as a salad with meyer lemon, sea beans, radish & potato crisps. It was fresh and flavorsome but it did not have too much seasoning so that you could not taste the fish.  The tenderness of the fish and the crunch of the potato crisps were unexpectedly very complementary.

For mains we had the handmade spaghetti with shrimp, broccoli rabe, radicchio, fennel pollen, grana padano and the seared rare line caught yellowfin tuna, with rouille, honey glazed brussels sprouts, baby carrot, tomato sherry salsa and olives.

The handmade spaghetti was like no other spaghetti I had tasted, it was fine and peppery. The broccoli rabe had a strong presence in this dish and its subtle bitterness mixed with the freshness of the shrimp and other tasty ingredients was perfection.   The yellowfin tuna was seared flawlessly and was tender and fresh. The sides that accompanied the tuna only enhanced the tuna’s flavor.

Crave Fishbar is a warm and welcoming restaurant with a great wine and seafood selection that pays attention to detail. It is a medium priced eatery that really lives up to its countless good reviews. Crave Fishbar is located at 945 Second Avenue (at 50^th Street) in Manhattan. I would recommend making a reservation to ensure a table.
