For a number of years friends and family have told me I must go see the Christmas Markets in Germany. ‘Magical’ was the adjective most frequently used to describe the markets. ‘Special’ came in a close second, then ‘amazing’ and ‘phenomenal’ was never in short supply either. With these types of recommendations, how could I pass up the chance to book a flight and spend 5 days visiting 3 different markets in Germany?
Harlem Stage continues to build upon its already strong programming. This was very much evident in a recent performance I saw featuring Maimouna Youssef (aka MuMu Fresh.) The Grammy-nominated artist frequently performs with The Roots and has appeared twice on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert; once with August Greene (8 […]

A week is Scotland is enough time to get a feel for the country and ensure you will start planning a second trip. I decided to fly from JFK into London Heathrow. This added a 4.5 hour train ride after a transatlantic overnight flight but it was worth […]
There are so many fun activities found on Randall’s Island located in the East River right between the New York City boroughs of Queens and Manhattan. Below are 10 great activities for you to try on the weekend or after work.
Have you ever stood on the Metro-North train platform on a Saturday morning and seen groups of people looking like they are ready for a bike race? They are most likely heading upstate to take advantage of a number of bike paths and trails found just outside the city.
One of these rides begins in Brewster, NY. Metro-North runs approximately once at hour on the weekends to this town in Putnam County. From the train station, it is one mile to the entrance and start of the Putnam Trailway.
The Monkey Cup has arrived in Harlem. The coffee shop, with its forest theme including leaf ceiling and stylish hanging lights is a welcome new addition to Central Harlem.
Harlem Hops, located on between 133rd and 134th streets on Adam Clayton Powell Avenue is a must visit beer hall if you are uptown Manhattan.
The beer hall has feels roomy with plenty of seats and space to stand and hangout with friends. Harlem Hops also has a backyard patio with a few chairs and tables if you want to take advantage of nice weather.
Lyndhurst Mansion is around a 45 minutes train ride on Metro-North from Grand Central Station. Off-peak roundtrip train tickets will cost around $21. A quick taxi ride from the Tarrytown train station to the mansion entrance is $7. A one hour small group guided tour of the mansion is $18. While this day trip upstate will cost you around $50, I would recommend it for the architectural and New York history as well as just walking around the grounds and taking pictures.
