Head over to any of the large parks around New York City after a snow day and most likely you will see lot of cross country skiers silently gliding through the open fields and walking pathways. There are a lot of nice looking options for this sport such as Van Cortlandt, Prospect, Riverside and of course Central Park.
Central Park, with its rolling hills and easy access seems to be the hot spot for this cold weather activity. I have called numerous sporting goods stores around the city and none of them seem to rent cross country skis. Unfortunately, this might be an activity for those who have found a way to keep a set jammed into their tiny new york apartment year around (full disclosure, I am not one of these people but really want to give it a try.)
If the skiing thing doesn’t work out for you, sledding in another fun option and we will have more of that later with some go to hills for your enjoyment.
