Dreamstates is currently on a limited release tour across the United States and was shown at Harlem Stage on Friday. The film, written and directed by Anisia Uzeyman and starring both the director and Saul Williams engages the audience with it’s imagery of the United States, limited dialogue but puissant interactions between the two main characters and a deeply thoughtful soundtrack.
The screening was followed by a question and answer session with the cast of the movie and ended with a live performance by Saul Williams.
The evening at Harlem Stage highlights the passion and level of curation this organization puts into their events. Within the span of 3 hours the audience was treated to a film, a behind the scenes look at the piece, spoken-word poetry and a live music set. It was really impressive (and at the end had half the audience on stage dancing.)
Harlem Stage is into their fall lineup so be sure to check out their site for upcoming events and performances.
