Quick tip for a little fun while visiting New York. Go to google maps on your phone and type a broad term like ‘historical,’ ‘museum’ or ‘gallery.’ A number of places will appear. Find something that is close you and walk right on over.
I have lived here awhile and still do this and that is how I found the Houdini Museum on West 35th Street. The museum is half magic shop and half historical memorabilia from the great Houdini. Note: the museum is in an office building so when you enter the lobby there is a front desk where you will sign in and then take the elevator right up.
While I was there the charismatic manager was giving everyone a free magic show which on it’s own made this a worthwhile visit. Admission is free and the museum is open from 10am-6pm weekdays and 10am-5pm on the weekend.
This is a recommended visit for families and fans of magic. You can plan to spend about 1/2 hour in the museum.
