A week exploring Scotland is just enough time to whet the appetite and make you want to go back again. I have included a sampling of pictures from a recent trip I took that will hopefully get you excited to plan a Scottish adventure.
Food
A main reason I travel and one way to experience a local culture is through their food. Before I travel I always make a list of local foods I want to try. I also find the days and locations for farmers markets in cities I am visiting . Finally, when I arrive I ask every local I meet where they would recommend I eat and then try and find those restaurants.
I had quite a long list before this trip and nothing disappointed. From the pics below, the Haggis was a real standout. Everyone has their own recipe but the one I tried had a nice level of spice and multiple levels of flavor.
Everything from the porridge to the fish and finally the beer and whisky were all delicious. A note about whisky tasting in Scotland: the pours are 25 ml which is about 1/2 a shot in the US (so it’s like trying 2 for 1.) Prices range from £4-8 which isn’t cheap but worth getting to try a variety of Scotches from the Lowlands, Highlands and Isles.

Exploring City Life
Wherever I travel I set a goal to walk a certain number of miles per day. Typically I will try and walk the perimeter of a city making sure I get a mix of both more touristy and local locations.
