Indie Rock Artist Jordan Seven Drops New Album “7”

By Nick Christophers

It may be cliché but artists who grew up influenced by the great bands of the 70’s and 80’s seem to know how to churn out amazing music. Granted, it is not to say that artists after those decades were not talented but the flavor and raw skill of previous acts that created music that never dies is a testament to their work. Jordan Seven grew up being surrounded by the sounds of such legends like Led Zeppelin, Boston, Pink Floyd, and David Bowie. He also attended shows with such acts as Cheap Trick, the Ramones, Ozzy Osbourne, Rush, and The Police. Jordan began to experiment with three different instruments: guitar, piano and drums. This was the beginning of an electrifying musical journey for him.

I’ve played in garage bands and cover bands for as long as I can remember because I love to sing and play guitar. But more recently, over the last few years, I made the decision to focus my attention solely on original music. And during the pandemic, I realized that I had finally found my own unique, musical voice and had something meaningful and enduring to share. Nothing I do is intended to be retro or nostalgic, though. I’m not trying to emulate anyone.  But great melody, atmosphere, and emotional weight are immutable. And if something feels honest and well-crafted, it doesn’t really age.”

Jordan’s recent project “7” was produced, written and performed by him with assistance from good friend and acclaimed touring drummer, Chris Moore, who played the drums. He has been in and out of cover bands for years but finding bandmates with the same vision and discipline Jordan has been a challenge. Jordan is a very focused and committed artist who values his work. He did find a talented group of artists (and good friends) to perform and jam with in Central Florida, but they all had varying interests artistically. Hence his decision to work on the new album on his own to create his unique style and vision.

One of the more personal tracks on “7” is the single, “Zephyr Girl,” which was born via a dream Jordan had. Many of his lyrics are inspired by dreams he has which is the case for many talented musicians in our time. The track offers a sense of rediscovery and exhales with an emotional string that pulls you in by surprise. Another standout on the project is the high energy single, “Solid Ground,” that drives home a feeling of revival and struggle.

“The fact that it (“Zephyr Girl”) came to me in a dream is really more a detail of how the song evolved than the reason it came to be so significant to the album overall. All of my songs have their own unique character, I think, but “Zephyr Girl” feels like the closest thing I have to a signature style.  And that probably has something to do with the way it evolved, and that the inspiration comes directly from my own experience.”

All of Jordan’s music is produced with the mindset of a live performance. But his focus now is on devoting his attention to completing a second album titled “Mercury”, which he is looking to release this year. Sunbsequently, he will direct his attention to booking live performances to showcase the two projects. The new project on the table will host some of Jordan’s typical format of melancholy and wistful subject matter but “Mercury” will also offer tracks with a more spontaneous and positive feel to them. So far, the title track, in particular, has received very positive feedback prior to its release, signaling great things to come on his second full length release.
