Latin American Artist Tina Halma Drops Two New Singles

By Nick Christophers

It often takes time for true talent to fully reveal itself, and that has certainly been the case for bilingual artist, producer, and songwriter Tina Halma. From an early age, she felt a natural pull toward music, drawn to its energy and sense of magic. She began studying piano and guitar during childhood. Actively participated in her local indie scene as a teen. These experiences soon opened doors to collaborations with independent and major record labels alike. Over time, she immersed herself in jam sessions, live gigs, and open stages, while also experimenting with different instruments, music production, and DJing. These formative years deepened her commitment to carving out a place in the music world. Among her many influences, Auro Sónico, Romnie Abreu, and Patricia Logroño have been especially influential.

Tina pursued her education with equal dedication, earning a BA in Management with a minor in Performing Arts, followed by a master’s degree in marketing. Despite her clear passion for music, her path initially led elsewhere. After graduating, she embarked on a decade-long career working on cruise ships, where she served as an International Entertainment Hostess and later took on various managerial roles. The experience was demanding and required discipline, but it also provided her with invaluable knowledge and a global network of connections.

As Tina reflects, life at sea was transformative. It strengthened her resilience, broadened her cultural awareness, and fostered a deep appreciation for diversity. Traveling to new destinations almost daily was extraordinary, even as the rigorous schedules and strict maritime regulations required consistency and focus. Perhaps most meaningful were the relationships she built—lasting friendships with people from around the world, along with a strong sense of camaraderie among crew members. Even practical skills, like fire safety protocols, became part of her lasting experience, but above all, it was the global community she formed that left the deepest impact.

Returning to her musical journey, Tina has recently released two standout singles. The first, “Gaslight,” is entirely written, produced, and composed by her. The track blend’s themes of empowerment and self-awareness with a touch of wit and humor. Her second single, “Presente,” performed in Spanish, was co-produced with Auro Sónico (José Saavedra), with mixing and mastering by LaClaveenelRitmo (Angel Valenilla). This song takes a more introspective approach, exploring emotional, psychological, and spiritual healing. Both singles are accompanied by visual releases available on her official YouTube channel. Looking ahead, Tina has visions for working on a full-length bilingual— “Spanglish”—album.

Throughout her career, Tina has performed at numerous venues, presenting covers, artist tributes, and recitals in her hometown of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Beyond music, she is deeply committed to philanthropy and community engagement. She actively supports RUIDOSA, a platform dedicated to supporting women in music across Latin America, and Festi-Band, a Dominican foundation focused on youth development through music education and performance opportunities.

RUIDOSA, founded in 2016 by Chilean singer-songwriter Francisca Valenzuela, promotes gender equity in the music industry by amplifying the voices of women, non-binary, and gender-diverse artists while fostering a strong creative community. Festi-Band, established in 2000 by José Andrés Vidal, has grown into one of the Caribbean’s most significant youth music initiatives, using artistic expression as a tool for education and social inclusion. Its National Festival of Youth Bands, first held in 2005, continues to showcase and uplift young talent across the country.

Tina speaks passionately about both organizations. She credits RUIDOSA for its early encouragement and ongoing inspiration, noting the support she received even before her first release. With Festi-Band, she had the opportunity to volunteer backstage at the National Festival of Youth Bands, witnessing firsthand the impact the organization has on young performers. For her, both communities represent meaningful change and creative upliftment.

As Tina Halma continues to evolve artistically, her journey reflects persistence, adaptability, and a deep-rooted passion for music and community. To stay updated on her latest releases and upcoming performances, you can follow her on Instagram.
