If I were to tell you I went into a store the other day and described it as having a “ripe,” “stinky,”pungent” or “penetrating” smell what would you think? Chances are you would not form a favorable opinion. Unless of course, I followed up that I was in a cheese shop and you of course liked cheese; and I am not talking about individually wrapped slices.
The Bedford Cheese Shop in Williamsburg, Brooklyn is one of my favorite places in the city which is saying a lot. Not only do they have an excellent selection of cheese but also pickles, probably 25 different types of mustard, cured meats and a variety of chocolates. And in pure NYC fashion, all this is crammed into a store that is about 20 ft by 20 ft.
The staff at Bedford Cheese know their product which is what separates a good store from a great store. Similar to a butcher, fishmonger or wine shop they can offer suggestions based on any of your needs. Throwing a party and want to put together a cheese platter? Want to try something slightly nutty? Looking for a wine pairing? They have you covered. Stop by and give them a test, you will not be disappointed.
Bedford Cheese Shop is located at 229 Bedford Avenue, Brooklyn NY 11211 and is easily accessible from the L train.
