5 Things to do at the Harlem Meer in Central Park

By Seth Fera-Schanes

Community House at the MeerThe Harlem Meer is a lake located at the north eastern corner of Central Park.  It is easily accessible by the 2,3 train or the B,C or 6 trains but those require a little additional walking time.

If you decide to head up to the lake, there are a lot of fun activities you can try.

1.  Walk the 3/4 mile circumference of the lake and then enter the Central Park Conservatory Garden.

2.  Visit the Museum of the City of New York and El Museo del Barrio.  They are located right next to the Meer on 5th avenue and one ticket purchase gets you into both museums.

3.  Fishing activities.  You can stop by the Dana Center for fishing pole rentals.  The center is open from 10am-5pm.

4.  Picnic in the park.  Choose from any number of great Harlem restaurants like Miss. Mamie’s Spoonbread, get some southern food and bring it over to the park to eat.

5. Ice Skating in the Winter and swimming in the Summer at the Lasker Pool and Rink.

  1. I never knew about the double admission ticket. Thanks for the heads up! Still can’t believe that in all my years of living in NYC, that I haven’t really spent much time in this section of the park, outside of passing by it during runs around the long loop.
