In one word; absolutely! While New York City summers can be hot, humid and smelly (I am really selling you on this right now) there are a range of activities and you have the opportunity to take advantage of the long days to explore so many new neighborhoods.
Below are just a few of the reasons why we love summer in the big apple.
Rooftop Views
EVERY bar and hotel that is able will have a rooftop bar or lounge open for the summer. Any friend with rooftop access will be inviting you over. You should fully immerse yourself in all of them. Relaxing on a New York City rooftop and talking with friends is one of the best things this city has to offer.
Outdoor Drinking
Whether you are at the Frying Pan, in a park or at a cafe, outdoor drinking and summer in New York City go hand in hand.
Laying Out
Any patch of grass, bench, park or city garden becomes an ideal spot to work on your tan during the summer months. The lounge game in this city is strong between July and September.
Working Out
Make sure to get up early to avoid the most intense heat of the day or head out in the evening but you can take full advantage of the outdoor space in the city. Try kayaking in the Hudson, biking along the water in Brooklyn or running in Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
City Parks
Boating during the day or a concert in Central Park at night, barbecuing in Brooklyn, strolling the summer market in Queens. The parks are open and excepting all visitors.
Outdoor Activities
Fireworks for July 4th, outdoor art and performances, reading and kite flying are just a few of the many many many ways to fill your day during the summer months.
Summer Sunsets
Few things are better in the summer than a New York City sunset over the Hudson River. You can see Manhattanhenge 4 times from the avenues or just grab some drinks and sandwiches from your local bodega and head over to the green path along the Hudson River and be prepared for a great end of the day.
