Mark Newman is not new to the music scene as he has already churned out four albums, but he is always surprising us with inspiring content. Growing up he was surrounded by music since his parents had the radio on all the time. At the tender age of six years old he was taken in by the sounds of rock and jazz. After watching the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show the music seed was planted in Mark’s heart.
As he grew in age his musical taste grew as he was inspired by acts like Little Feat, Allman Brothers, Ry Cooder, Motown artists, Sam & Dave, Steve Cropper, Steely Dan, Muddy Waters and of course, Beatles and Stones. Mark has been in the music game since 2006 when he released the single “Must Be A Pony” and he has come a long way since then. He is a versatile musician playing the guitar, lap steel, mandolin, and the dobro.
Mark has had the privilege to share the stage with such notable acts like Sam Moore (Sam & Dave), John Oates (Hall and Oates), Jim McCarty (Yardbirds, Renaissance), the late Willy DeVille (Mink DeVille), Bobby Whitlock (Derek and the Dominos) and Sam The Sham. His music has received many accolades over the years. Projects like “Walls of Jericho” to the live solo EP “Brussels” has cemented his talent worldwide. This CD “Empirical Truth”, that he released in 2018 won best CD from the Long Island Blues Society. Recently he dropped a new single titled “Ghost”, but don’t be fooled by the title it is not about what you may think. As Mark explained.
“It’s about regrets about things you did and things you didn’t do and being able to move on with your life.”
“Ghost” is part of new album that Mark intends to release soon. It will include several new projects like “Tulsa”, “At The Border”, “Fill Up My Tank” and “From Me To You”. The genre his music would mostly fall under would be Roots Rock which is also considered Americana. Only recently did Mark perform at the Bitter End on July 25th with the Blues Project. The Bitter End just happens to be one of Mark’s favorite places to perform.
The new release included musicians Naomi Margolin – Guitar/Vocals, John Cardone
Bass/Vocals, Shawn Murray – Drums/Percussion and Mike DiMeo – Organ. It was produced by Mark Newman and Fred Guarino. It was engineered by Fred Guarino and Jacob Koch at Tiki Recording in Glen Cove, New York. Mixing and mastering were completed by Fred Guarino at Tiki Recording. It dropped on July 31st and has garnered positive feedback.
Currently, Mark is looking to spend more time in the studio completing the new album and touring with his band and with the Blues Project.
