Imagine you find yourself wandering around Manhattan’s Upper West Side.  You are about to pass 74th street on Amsterdam Avenue and the  smell of freshly baked cookies permeates the air.  You are instantly taken back to childhood, eagerly awaiting for your Mom to pull a baking sheet of chocolate chip cookies from the oven.  A smile spreads across your face.

Photographing the city is a favorite hobby of many New York City residents.  Lazy Saturdays and Sundays are perfect for putting your walking shoes on, packing your camera and taking a photo tour around the city.  With smart phones and instagram you don’t even need to carry a DSLR around and can get instant feedback on your pics as you post to social networks (#nofilter, #realtime, #pleasepleaselikeme and all that.)

Do Peacocks Live in New York?

No, not at NBC Studios in midtown but rather Manhattan’s Morningside Heights at the Cathedral of Saint John The Divine.  The Cathedral, located on 113th and Amsterdam is one of my favorite places in the city.  Not only is the interior so vast one thinks he is in a cavern but there is also the most interesting (i.e not sure what it is) statue adjacent to the building and of course the peacock.  Actually make that two peacocks; one shimmering blue and green and one decked out all in white.
