It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

In the title I am talking about fall in NYC and not the holiday season Andy Williams crooned on his 1963 album.

Autumn in New York is my favorite time of the year. Gone are the days of oppressive heat and sweat soaked subway walls. The international tourist set have retreated to build back their bank accounts so they can come again next summer. There is a lull before the Christmas tourist crew finds their way into the city to clog the streets as they ogle all the pretty lights and trees. Clearly this writer has some seasonal issues he needs to work through.

Levain Bakery – A Cookie Above the Rest

Imagine you find yourself wandering around Manhattan’s Upper West Side.  You are about to pass 74th street on Amsterdam Avenue and the  smell of freshly baked cookies permeates the air.  You are instantly taken back to childhood, eagerly awaiting for your Mom to pull a baking sheet of chocolate chip cookies from the oven.  A smile spreads across your face.

Hey New York – Say Cheese!

Photographing the city is a favorite hobby of many New York City residents.  Lazy Saturdays and Sundays are perfect for putting your walking shoes on, packing your camera and taking a photo tour around the city.  With smart phones and instagram you don’t even need to carry a DSLR around and can get instant feedback on your pics as you post to social networks (#nofilter, #realtime, #pleasepleaselikeme and all that.)

Central Harlem: Between 110th and 130th Street

By Seth Fera-Schanes Any day of the week is a great day to visit Central Harlem.  Easily accessible from the 2 and 3 subway lines, I would suggest packing your camera from a fun afternoon of photography.  I like to exit from the 110th street stop which is located […]

Hudson Beach Cafe: The Most Scenic Bar and Restaurant in Riverside Park

By Seth Fera-Schanes A semi-secret around NYC, known mostly to the Upper West Side crowd, the Hudson Beach Cafe is one of my favorite spots in New York. Situated outdoors in Riverside Park, visitors are treated to a panoramic view of the Hudson River on one side and […]
